Yesterday my oldest decided to be a spoiled brat! Yes, my neuro-typical child decided to make the blog story today. He was playing Zelda on his DS with his soon to be step brother and i wanted him to help with the guinea pig's cage...key word was help. SO I took over as Link and tried to save Zelda's kingdom for a bit while he did his chores. Well he stood and watch Jeremy and was not helping at all when I came in the kitchen. I saw this and put down his game, not even bothering to pause it just closed it and told Jeremy to go sit down and Alex would finish on his own. All Alex had to do was clean the plastic tray with water and a sponge, but he decided to have a full grown tizzy in the bathroom instead. He pulled down the shower curtain and began flailing his arms and legs in dirty guinea pig water. Then thought splashing it on me would get him out of the chore. No he only ended up being grounded from DS and having to fix the mess in the shower. Now if only he had stopped there....but Alex stomped off to the bedroom and closed the door. He did something to the wall. I am unaware if it was a kick, punch or jab with an object but a hole was made. The hole is small, but it still needs to be repaired so I marched my 12 year old tantrum wielding child to the computer where he priced all the supplies to fix drywall. He also watched a video on fixing it and will earn the money and fix it himself. This child is capable of pulling carpet, tearing down and building fences and de-wallpapering I am sure he can fix a little hole. I had him write down a list of chores to earn the 7.99, for a drywall patch kit that he chose to use. I think that is a pricey version but I kept my mouth shut as he is going to work for 8 bucks that is better than working for only $6. Now this is not my child on the spectrum yet he certainly made my evening a colorful one. Oh and I almost forgot to mention all the while he is yelling at me, "you're gonna kill me." Maybe he thought that when I saw the wall I would, but obviously I would never think of killing my son, but I was disappointed in him of course.
So I ask all of you, did I do the right thing? What would you have done?
